Get to Know Stephen Dumke: Our President and CEO

Stephen J. Dumke, LNHA, FACHE, was recently named president and CEO of Christian Health, following the retirement of Douglas A. Struyk. The board of trustees unanimously appointed Steve, who previously served as president and chief operating officer. With nearly a decade at Christian Health and a career devoted to senior living and health care, Steve brings visionary leadership, operational expertise, and a deep commitment to faith-driven care.

“Steve’s unanimous appointment to lead the organization is the culmination of a thoughtful two-year transition process designed to ensure Christian Health is best positioned to serve its communities for generations to come,” said board chair Tom Dykhouse. “We look forward to a bright future under Steve’s leadership.”

As president and CEO, Steve will work alongside the board of trustees and senior leadership team to advance strategic initiatives, encourage growth, and ensure Christian Health remains a leader in compassionate, high-quality care.

“I am deeply honored to step into this role,” Steve shared. “Christian Health sits on a solid foundation built for success. I am excited to build on this legacy and work with our highly skilled team to continue delivering the high-quality care our residents and patients, as well as their families, deserve.”

For Steve, health care is more than a profession: it’s a calling. “I wanted to do something that wasn’t just a career but a mission,” he said. “I love having the opportunity to work with so many different people and be part of their journey to health and recovery. Working in health care gives me a sense of purpose, and I’m grateful for the chance to make a meaningful impact every day.”

This passion is deeply tied to his faith and values, which guide his leadership: faithfulness to Christ and an unwavering commitment to quality care, compassion, empathy, and ensuring patient and family satisfaction.

“My values align perfectly with Christian Health’s mission to foster health, healing, and wellness,” Steve said. “Everything we do is centered on service and making a difference in people’s lives.”

Steve describes his leadership style as collaborative, strategic, and results-driven but, most importantly, inclusive. “I want to ensure that every voice is heard and every team member feels valued,” he shared.

At Christian Health, people are at the heart of everything. “Our team is what makes this organization great,” he said. “They aren’t here just for a job; they are passionate about what they do. Their dedication to caring for those in need is truly inspiring, and I feel blessed to work alongside them.”

Steve also cherishes the relationships he builds with Christian Health’s residents and patients. “Each of them has a rich and meaningful past, and I consider it a privilege to get to know them and hear their stories.”

For Steve, faith is the foundation of everything. “I am so aware of the blessing of having the opportunity to lead, and I take that responsibility seriously,” he said. “Each day, I approach my work with the mindset that we can be a beacon of God’s love and should always be mindful of the needs of others. My faith has shaped my leadership approach, making me more compassionate, empathetic, and patient while also reinforcing my strong commitment to excellence and service.”

Steve’s family is central to his journey. His wife, Jessica, is his greatest support and sounding board. “She has the best heart and provides guidance and insight that help me navigate challenges,” he said.

As a devoted father to Anna, Elisa, and Evan, Steve finds joy in cheering them on in everything they do. “I love being their dad,” he said. “I’m their biggest fan and so proud of who they are. They’re smart, talented, and bring so much laughter and happiness into my life.”

Outside of work, Steve enjoys watching and playing sports, staying active, and spending time outdoors. He also loves grilling, cooking, and traveling, especially when it means making memories with his family.

As Steve steps into his new role, his vision for Christian Health is clear: to honor its legacy while embracing new opportunities for growth and innovation.

“We are built on a strong foundation, and I want to ensure we continue to evolve and meet the changing needs of those we serve,” he said. “It’s about more than just sustaining what we have; it’s about making it even better for the future.”

With his steadfast faith, deep appreciation for the Christian Health community, and heart for servant leadership, Steve is committed to leading with integrity, vision, and compassion, ensuring that Christian Health continues to be a place of healing, wellness, and hope for generations to come.
