Christian Health’s Signature Spring Gala to Honor CEO Emeritus Douglas A. Struyk

Christian Health will honor Douglas A. Struyk, CPA, LNHA, who recently retired as CEO of Christian Health after a 34-year career, at the Signature Spring Gala – an event to celebrate his legacy and contributions to the organization’s mission.

As CEO, Doug contributed to the successful growth and development of Christian Health, a leader in health care and senior-living services, with many transformative projects. He increased the geographical reach and breadth of Christian Health’s services with a forward-thinking approach that helped him identify the greatest community needs and work innovatively to meet them.

Under his leadership, Christian Health made mental health care a significant priority, increasing funding and adding numerous services to the continuum, including a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program and New Jersey’s first women-only inpatient trauma-care program.

Christian Health opened several new senior-living communities, including assisted living, memory care, affordable housing, and The Vista, North Jersey’s premier continuing care retirement community. Doug oversaw the addition of new campuses in Wayne and North Haledon, added home care services to the continuum, and developed a short-term rehabilitation program. Numerous quality-control committees under his guidance ensured every facet of Christian Health’s care and services met the highest standards.

In addition to his achievements at Christian Health, he led philanthropic initiatives, supported educational programs, contributed to local nonprofits, and supported his community with service on many state and local boards. Doug serves as chair of the NJ Nursing Home Administrators’ Licensing Board, executive director of Wayne Senior Housing Development Corporation, and board member of NewBridge Services. In 2005, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt appointed Doug to the Federal Medicaid Advisory Commission because of his extensive knowledge of post-acute care and behavioral health systems. In 2021, he became the first non-acute-care hospital CEO to serve as chair of the NJ Hospital Association. In 2022, Governor Phil Murphy appointed Doug to the NJ Task Force on Long-Term Care Quality and Safety, where he also served as the commission’s chair.

The Signature Spring Gala honoring Doug’s extraordinary leadership will take place on Thursday, April 24, at 6 p.m. at Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park, New Jersey. All event proceeds support Christian Health’s Annual Fund, which enables the organization to provide greater access to care for the community and optimize its care and services.
