Director of Nursing at Christian Health Named Nurse of the Year by HCANJ

Anne Alonzo, BSN, RN, QCP, Director of Nursing at Christian Health’s Heritage Manor Skilled Nursing and Southgate Special Care, was named Nurse of the Year by the Health Care Association of New Jersey (HCANJ), an organization dedicated to promoting the highest quality of long-term health care services in New Jersey. The HCANJ Awards recognize the contributions of outstanding staff, residents, and volunteers in long-term care throughout the state.

Anne’s nomination noted her “exemplary clinical skill set, expertise in quality improvement, and strong leadership,” all of which contributed to a positive annual survey for Christian Health and 40 new hires to combat the effects of the nursing shortage and optimize quality of care.

Beyond fulfilling her duties as director of nursing, Anne is dedicated to workforce development. She was a panelist at HCANJ’s Spring Conference to discuss RN clinical rotation in long-term care and worked with the New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing (NJCCN) on a two-part episode of the podcast “Nursing Insights” to share her advice for nurses beginning their careers.

“Our organization is dedicated to a best-in-class nursing team,” said Myrna Gomez, LNHA, Executive Director and Administrator. “In her work with the nursing team, Anne educates others on addressing resident needs and those of the family in providing patient-centered care. The way her employees follow her is a testimony of her talents and demonstration of the respect they have for her.”

Anne’s nomination also notes her “great people skills” and commitment to thoroughly conducting unit rounds, introducing herself to all new residents, and investigating and responding promptly to any concerns.

“We are so thankful to have Anne on our team to ensure the provision of quality care to our residents through her leadership and the passion of her nurse’s heart,” said Douglas A. Struyk, CPA, LNHA, Christian Health CEO. “Her dedication to continuous improvement is perfectly aligned with our mission to consistently foster health, healing, and wellness to all in our care and in our community. I am honored to congratulate her on this award.”

Anne received her award at the HCANJ Annual Convention & Expo, held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from October 29 to 30, 2024.
