The Christian Health Board of Trustees announced today that CEO Douglas A. Struyk will retire December 31, 2024, after 34 years of service to the northern New Jersey-based senior living and mental health organization. The board has named Christian Health President and Chief Operating Officer Stephen J. Dumke as Struyk’s successor. An industry veteran, Dumke has been with the organization for nine years.
“Steve’s unanimous appointment to lead the organization upon Doug’s retirement is the culmination of a thoughtful two-year transition process designed to ensure Christian Health is best positioned to serve its communities for generations to come,” said board Chair Tom Dykhouse. “Doug is a visionary leader who greatly advanced our mission and values during his decades-long tenure, and we look forward to a bright future under Steve’s leadership.”
Struyk’s legacy will be one of a true trailblazer, leaving a lasting impact on the future of health care in New Jersey. Under his leadership, Christian Health significantly expanded the depth and breadth of its senior living, mental health, and rehabilitation services and programs as well as its geographical footprint. During his tenure, Struyk has spearheaded program development, facility expansion projects, and community affiliations impacting all of the organization’s programs. The outcome has improved and transformed the lives of countless Christian Health residents, patients, clients and families.
“Serving as CEO of Christian Health and working alongside such a talented and dedicated team of healthcare professionals and community leaders has been one of the greatest privileges of my life,” said Struyk. “Together, we’ve paved a path forward to ensure our residents and patients have access to high-quality care for years to come. I have all the confidence in Steve and his ability to carry forward the mission and values of our organization.”
In an emeritus role, Struyk will serve as an advisor and aid in a smooth transition. As President and CEO, Dumke will work with Christian Health’s Boards of Trustees and established senior leadership team to focus on strategic planning initiatives that advance its mission and best position the 113-year-old organization for future growth and vitality.
“I am deeply honored to have been appointed President and CEO of Christian Health,” said Dumke. “Thanks to Doug’s leadership, Christian Health sits on a solid foundation built for success. I am excited to build on his legacy and work with the highly skilled team within our organization to continue to deliver the high-quality care our residents, patients, and families deserve.”
