Our Compassionate Memory Care Communities

Our Compassionate Memory Care Communities

When your loved one is suffering from dementia, properly caring for them on your own can be incredibly challenging. Whether your loved one is showing early signs of cognitive problems or experiencing significant behavioral disturbances caused by Alzheimer’s disease or other illness, one of our several diverse memory care communities can help. Across our comprehensive continuum of care, Christian Health provides compassionate memory care and behavior management to support older adults struggling with dementia and to bring comfort to their loved ones.

Courtyard at Longview: Specialized Care for Early-Stage Dementia and Memory Loss

At the Courtyard at Longview, those with early-stage dementia thrive in a community that prioritizes safety and comfort while promoting independence and social interaction.

Courtyard offers special programs, care services, and an extensive calendar of fun and engaging activities and events to improve memory, ease anxiety, and bring residents out of their shell. These include cognitive and speech therapy to improve memory and language skills, an art program to encourage creativity, an on-staff chaplain to provide spiritual programming, special events and socials, live entertainment, day trips, a cozy communal dining room to promote socialization, an enclosed courtyard to offer safe outside access, and regular staff rounds to engage residents and ensure their safety.

Our priority at Courtyard is ensuring your loved one enjoys an optimal quality of life so that you and your family rest assured that they are in excellent hands.

Ramapo Ridge Behavioral Health

Our inpatient mental health hospital, Ramapo Ridge, provides therapeutic behavioral health services with four program levels – one of which is focused on older adults struggling with mental health disturbances that may be caused by dementia, depression, or other illness. Licensed by the State of New Jersey and accredited by The Joint Commission, Ramapo Ridge offers comprehensive inpatient treatment in a gentle, nonjudgmental setting.

Activities for older adults at Ramapo Ridge work to promote feelings of self-worth, provide purpose, and help them relax, such as Snoezelen therapy, a multisensory type of therapy that uses light, aroma, and sound to produce calming effects.

Southgate Special Care: Compassionate Behavior Management

Southgate Special Care’s healing, therapeutic environment provides compassionate care for older adults with behavioral disturbances associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia – one of only four similarly licensed communities in the state of New Jersey.

Older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia often experience behavioral disturbances such as aggression, agitation, hostility, or self-harm. Many of our residents come to Southgate after being in other nursing care centers that were unable to treat their behavioral issues effectively. However, after arriving at Southgate, these residents improve because of our exceptional team’s understanding of their needs, expert training, and effective therapeutic approach.

We have recently completed extensive renovations at Southgate to further foster a peaceful, serene setting that will help alleviate resident symptoms and ease stress. New additions to the community include new designs for all resident rooms and common areas, an inviting family lounge for private visits, a comforting pet therapy area, a multisensory Snoezelen lounge, a tranquil Circadian rhythm lighting system, and a state-of-the-art updated security system, upgraded door safety, and a new nurse-call system.
