Christian Health’s Clinical Nutrition Manager has joined an elite group of nutritional experts. Carolyn McAdams, RDN, CSG, earned board certification as a Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is one of only 25 in the entire State of New Jersey.
“My motivation to become board-certified was to make a difference in the quality of our residents’ lives by learning all the aspects of the aging body and how they impact nutrition,” Ms. McAdams says. “Nutritional needs and how the body processes food are much, much different in older adults. Using a thorough and thoughtful approach, we can create and offer healthy – and satisfying – meals for all our seniors based upon their individual needs and food preferences.”
Board certification as a Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition recognizes excellence in areas including education and counseling, care planning, food safety, food operations, cultural and psychological aspects of nutrition, and screening and assessment for malnutrition.
“I enjoyed every minute of learning to prepare for the board-certification exam,” Ms. McAdams says. “I’m sharing the education that I gained with the Dining and Nutritional Services team with the goal of elevating our already nutritious meals for our residents. We all recognize that good, proper, and appetizing meals play a significant role in health, healing, and wellness.”
