Express Your Personal Style at The Vista

The Vista is about community, and it’s also about individuality. North Jersey’s newest Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), being built on Christian Health’s (CHCC) Wyckoff/Hawthorne campus, will be a thriving neighborhood joining active, independent seniors together for activities, events, and dining to nourish body, mind, and spirit. But through the 20 different floor plans and numerous options and upgrades, residents have ample opportunities for personal expression.
“Each of the nearly 200 Vista apartment homes will reflect the resident’s own style,” says Kris Powell, Development Manager at Eventus Strategic Partners. Eventus, in conjunction with Merlino Design Partnership Inc., LAN Associates, and HCM, designed The Vista.
Apartments range in size from just under 1,000 square feet to almost 3,000 square feet. Most offer balcony and patio options.
“From the very beginning of the design process, CHCC staff told us that they wanted to offer products and materials created by best manufacturers at The Vista,” says Kimberly Hyduke, Partner at Merlino. “Each company that was selected, such as Kohler, Silestone, Armstrong, and Benjamin Moore, has a reputation for quality and design.”
Exquisite granite countertops and top-grade cabinetry can be found in every Vista apartment home. In addition to quality, some features were selected specifically for the community’s population. Large tiles are used for foyer and kitchen floors, for instance, but smaller tiles are found in the bathroom.
“Smaller tiles allow for more grout, which helps prevent slipping,” Ms. Hyduke says. “Similarly, low-pile carpet is found in the living room and bedroom because it’s easier for seniors to walk on.”
But what if you’re not a fan of tile and carpet?
“Then you can have hardwood floors throughout your home!” Ms. Hyduke says. “It’s just one of the upgrades available.”
Design-package options and upgrades allow for numerous means of personal expression. Four design-package options offer alternate cabinetry finishes, tile, carpet, countertops, fixtures, and paint. Two optional palettes are warm: Sandbar and Canyon. Two are cool: Birchwood and Metropolitan. Design-package upgrades include hardwood floors, ceiling fans, subway-tile backsplashes, towel warmers, appliances with extra features, and more.
“Not crazy about chrome?” Ms. Hyduke says. “Choose brushed nickel.”
The Vista Options and Upgrades Coordinator can assist residents with exploring and selecting options, if interested and requested.
“The coordinator has expertise in all options,” Mr. Powell says. “Spec sheets and pricing are available for every single item, so you can make decisions with complete information and stay within your budget. And if you’d like input from one of your children or other loved one that doesn’t live locally, technology makes that possible.”
Quality and design continues when you step outside your Vista apartment home.
“The design of The Vista started with Christian Health’s vision of a mountain-top lodge,” says Bruce Horowitz, Principal of Merlino. “The architecture is like a grand mountain lodge. It has a stately look that has a connection with local architecture in Wyckoff. This is evident in the clipped gables found throughout Briarcliffe, Highridge, and Esplanade – the residential wings- and in the sloped buttress stonework. The overall effect is that The Vista has been sitting comfortably on its hilltop for a very long time.”
All residential wings converge in a common space. Here, Vista residents enjoy an abundance of amenities. Culinary options include fine dining at The Waterstone, casual fare at the Windmill, and pub fare/grab-and-go selections at the Gallery Café and Bistro. The wellness areas include spa and salon services, an indoor aquatic center, and a state-of-the-art fitness center featuring cardio and weight equipment designed for mature adults. Ample venues are available for social events, educational and spiritual programs, and cultural activities.
A vital component of The Vista is access to CHCC’s higher levels of care. Residents can move seamless among the levels of care based on need. Two contracts are available. One is a Fee-for-Service Contract. Under this plan, Vista residents have priority access to CHCC’s assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and short-term rehab, and receive a 10-percent discount of the rate current at the time. The other option is a Life Care Contract. Individuals will pay the same monthly fee for assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing that they are paying monthly at The Vista at the time of transition. The only extra charge will be for additional meals and ancillary services. Those who select this option pay a one-time Life Care entry fee and a monthly Life Care fee.
The most important element which sets The Vista apart from other CCRCs is its non-profit status. The community will invest funds into improving the community and making residents happier and healthier through nourishing body, mind, and spirit. Like other residences and services on the CHCC campus, The Vista will be a 501 (C) (3) corporation, meaning profits are reinvested back into the community.
“Vista residents are making a sound investment in their lifestyle, health, and future,” says Douglas A. Struyk, CPA, LNHA, CHCC President and CEO. “They are also investing in CHCC’s mission, vision, and values.”
