Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is designed to help improve or recover skills needed for daily life and work activities. Occupational therapists may work with people who have physical, mental or cognitive disabilities and, in addition to improving physical abilities, will help to eliminate environmental barriers to a patient’s independence.

Occupational therapy may be part of your individualized rehabilitation plan.

Occupational therapy may include:

  • Training in performing activities of daily living, such as dressing and feeding
  • Wheelchair prescription and management, as well as consultation on additional specialized seating needs
  • Exercise to enhance the individual’s ability to care for himself or herself
  • Evaluation for splinting of arms and hands for minimizing loss of motion
